Calls
Because our company has four pieces of apparatus (including the boat) in service at all times, we act as a truck company, engine company, and a rescue company in some situations.
This means we respond to wide variety of calls in Fair Lawn and other municipalities. Our company is on call ready to serve the residents of Fair Lawn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except for instances such as out of town training, or a borough fire evolution (eg: funeral services, or the annual FLFD dinner).
Most of the small fire calls we get (brush, mulch, and dumpster fires), we only respond to in our fire district. However these small fires need to be put out quickly to prevent it from spreading and becoming a major incident.

During a storm such as a flood, blizzard, or severe thunderstorm, we often get dispatched to "Standby" in our firehouse. Our members will usually stay overnight (and sometimes for a number of days) until the storm passes. On a mutual aid assignment, we usually standby in another municipalities firehouse (also someties overnight) where we could either get sent to the fire scene, or take another fire call in a seperate location.

Here is the process our members go through when responding to a call:
1. A Firefighter gets paged a notification for the location and type of emergency call as it happens.
2. The Firefighter responds to the firehouse (they may be at home, at work, or on a daily routine)
3. In a matter of seconds, the Firefighter slips his full fire gear on and jumps in the apparatus.
4. The apparatus responds to the incident location.
Usually the whole process takes under five minutes!
